The fifth car in the five-decade collaboration.

At the 2016 Concorseo d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, Aston Martin and Zagato celebrated the debut of the fifth car created by the two iconic brands during their 50+ year history. Starting with the 1960 DB4 GT Zagato to the 2011 V12 Vantage Zagato, the two brands have enjoyed a fruitful collaboration together that has again yielded a star for the 2016 Concorseo d’Eleganza Villa d’Este – the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept.

“Over the years, we have developed and refined our own design language and we have always gone that little bit further with our special series cars like CC-100, One-77 and Aston Martin Vulcan. The Vanquish Zagato Concept shows how our two companies can come together and push the definition of Aston Martin design,” said Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer.

Designed in close collaboration between Aston Martin’s design team and Andrea Zagato’s team in Milan, the new Vanquish Zagato Concept showcases a dramatic, athletic figure that is unmistakably Aston Martin.

Carbon fiber makes up the entire body with one-piece panels making up the split lines. The latest technology was also incorporated with the ‘bladed’ three-dimensional LED lights seen on the Aston Martin Vulcan used with the classic round Zagato look, matching the round, ring-style LED daytime running lights up front.

“We pride ourselves on our strong partnership and the creation of the Vanquish Zagato Concept was a true shared experience,’ says Zagato’s CEO, Andrea Zagato, ‘it represents the essence of an important design relationship that dates back over fifty years.”

Other Aston Martin design elements can be found throughout the new Vanquish Zagato Concept. Each of the wing mirrors and sculpted rear fascia are similar to that of the One-77 and DB11, respectively, with the latter incorporating a retractable spoiler and luggage hatch. Rippled carbon fiber sills create a unique diffuser that houses the quad exhaust system.

The new Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept has a sleek, swooping roofline with the classic ‘double-bubble’ shape that continues into the rear windshield. The side strake originally seen on the CC-100 and used in the DB11 is featured in the Concept. A sharp line runs upward and curves around the rear wheel arches, where it then meets the sloping roofline to create a muscular and athletic stance.

Along with the new look, the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept also benefits from a power boost up to 600 metric horsepower and a more dynamic suspension to match its new design.

Inside, classic Aston Martin craftsmanship and Zagato design elements can be seen throughout. Special Herringbone carbon fiber is used alongside shadow and anodized bronze, and aniline leather on the dashboard, vents, and dials for a high-end feel. Each seat features black and red leather seats with the iconic Zagato ‘Z’ logo in the headrests and center console, and ‘Z’ quilted patterns along each side.

Unfortunately, the new Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Concept is just that – a concept car that will likely never make it into production. However, if it’s a sign of things to come from a design perspective, it’s definitely something to get excited about.
