The Jaguar F-Type SVR is the Most Hardcore Yet

Lighter, quicker, more powerful, and faster.

The Jaguar F-Type has been impressive since it was first launched. The British automaker has been creating more and more performance-oriented variants subsequently, from the F-Type R to the limited Project 7. Now, the Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations have bestowed their performance touch on the sports car with the new F-Type SVR.

The Jaguar F-Type SVR is the first Jaguar model to bear the SVR nameplate and is an everyday, all-weather super car capable of reaching 200 mph. The Special Vehicle Operations team went through every performance aspect of the F-Type and optimized it to perform even better.

“The purity of the F-TYPE’s form is something truly special, but in designing the new F-TYPE SVR we had the opportunity to create something even more dramatic. Every additional form, line or component is there for a reason, and contributes to the car’s increased performance as well as its presence,” said Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar.

“Cutting-edge aerodynamics have always been fundamental to Jaguar design, and everything from the enlarged air intakes to the active rear wing is essential to the new F-TYPE SVR’s dramatic looks and 200mph potential.”

The 5.0-liter, supercharged V-8 engine that powers the Jaguar F-Type SVR is similar to the unit found in the Project 7 and features an upgraded cooling system thanks to new intercoolers, intakes, and hood vents. A new titanium and Inconel exhaust cuts 35 lbs. of weight and is more capable of withstanding high temperatures. The quad-tailpipe, valve-controlled exhaust also emits an aggressive and menacing British V-8 note filled with adrenaline. A total of 575 PS (567 horsepower) at 6,500 RPM and 516 lb-ft. of torque from 3,500 to 5,000 RPM is created thanks to the new upgrades and calibration.

The upgraded V-8 engine in the Jaguar F-Type SVR is mated to an eight-speed Quickshift gearbox tailored for performance along with the torque-on-demand all-wheel drive system with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) control, and performance-optimized electronics. This allows the hardcore sports car to reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds from rest, while top speed is back at 200 mph for the Coupe and 195 mph for the Convertible.

The chassis of the Jaguar F-Type SVR was given a more athletic and responsive touch thanks to lighter and stiffer upgrades. The rear anti-roll bar is larger while the front is slimmer; the dampers are modified along with the software that controls them; and new redesigned, lightweight and stiffer rear knuckles, and the Torque Vectoring system was re-tuned.

New Coriolis wheels in Satin Technical Grey or Gloss Black come standard in a 9.0J x 20 front and 11.0J x 20 rear setup with wider 265/35 ZR20 and 305/30 ZR20 tires. The forged wheels reduce weight a total of 30 lbs. compared to the rest of the model lineup. Behind those wheels are the Jaguar Super Performance brakes with 380 mm front and 376 mm front and rear discs. As an option, the Jaguar F-Type SVR can be equipped with lighter, fade-free Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes with 398- and 380 mm discs grabbed by six- and four-piston monobloc calipers.

The SVR treatment also includes quite a variety of aerodynamically-optimized upgrades on the Jaguar F-Type SVR. The front bumper was extended to prevent air from reaching the wheels while a new front valence and undertray reduces lift. New hood vents help dissipate heat more effectively for the 5.0-liter V-8 engine and fender vents remove heat from the braking system.

A special under-floor tray incorporates a rear venturi to create negative pressure beneath the sports car for better stability. A new deployable rear wing automatically extends at 60 mph for the Coupe and 70 mph for the Convertible in Normal mode. In Dynamic mode, the spoiler is fully deployed and reduces lift and drag by 2.5-percent and 15-percent, respectively.

As an option, the Jaguar F-Type SVR can be had with a Carbon Fiber Pack that includes new body work made from the lightweight material to go along with the standard carbon fiber roof panel and rear wing.

The cockpit of the Jaguar F-Type SVR boasts a pair of 14-way adjustable SVR Performance seats wearing Lozenge Quilt patterned Jet black leather with contrast stitching and micro-piping finished off with embossed SVR logos. Optional Siena Tan or Red leather is also available and matches the suedecloth instrument cluster and center console. Optional leather and suedecloth steering wheels with painted spokes and stitching pack larger shift paddles for easier control.

The full range of electronics and two different infotainment systems are available for customers to choose from, the premium of which includes a 770-watt Meridian surround sound audio system. Smartphone connectivity allows for owners to perform a variety of functions remotely for greater convenience.

The new Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe and Convertible can be ordered prior to the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show, where it will officially be unveiled. Pricing will start at $125,950 for the Coupe and $128,800 for the Convertible.
